cousins

My immediate family have spent much time abroad, living in Australia, Indonesia and Holland before settling back in the UK in the 1960s. Decades later, when working as a secretary, I bumped into someone working at a finance house in the City of London who sported my mother's maiden name, so we talked at some length about our antecedents and it transpired that he and I, had great-grandfathers (+5) who were brothers. He showed me an extensive genealogical table which gave insights into my grandfather's siblings. It prompted further investigation on my part into first and second cousins on my side, and that is how I came to find Frances. From about 2009/10, we would meet up for an early lunch at the V&A and enjoy a couple of hours natter, and I was able to hear about her family, what she knew of mine and how my suffragette aunt had looked after her father towards the end of his life. The lockdown had interrupted the flow of these visits by two years, and we had to keep postponing our chats over lunch. She had a great sense of humour, a very positive disposition, great tenacity and integrity, and was green-fingered to boot - all traits which resonated so well with the strong and practical personalities of the women in our respective families. My daughters and I will miss her terribly.
